GameWoz is open
New
No more invite codes: anyone can join GameWoz now. Sign-up is three short steps (birthday, email and password or Discord/GitHub, a quick bot check).
For now GameWoz is for adults only (18 and over) while we finish getting ready for younger members.

More than one side thing

Got more than one side thing? Pick as many of the four as fit you: when you join, on Home, or any time in Settings → Edit profile → Your side things.

Alpha 24.1
A landing page that starts like a game
LookNew
The landing page now opens like a title screen: the four planets fly in, “What's your side thing?” types itself out, then the top bar and a blinking “Press start” fade in.
Turn on the space music with the button in the corner: a slow, ambient soundtrack made live in your browser.
“GameWoz is your corner of the internet” now comes after the GameWoz picture, just before “Find your people”.
Finishing sign-up is a moment: press Create account (or Let's go at the end) and the stars race, the screen flashes white with a whoosh, and the next page slowly appears.
Alpha 24
A warmer way in
NewLook
Joining GameWoz is now a short journey through space: one question at a time, typed out as you go, with the stars jumping to warp speed between steps.
Setting up your profile asks only for the essentials (name, @handle, colour, public or private). Your bio, banner, picture and links can wait for Settings.
And finally: “What's your side thing?” Pick Gaming, Programming, Art or Internet Culture. It's just for you for now, and it will lead you to your Space when Spaces open. Change it any time in Settings.
Already a member? Home asks you once, or pick it in Settings.
Alpha 23.1
Smoother everything
LookFix
GameWoz moves more smoothly: pages slide in, colours ease on hover and when you switch themes, menus and pickers pop in, new posts fade in, and More options opens gently. If your device asks for less motion, all of this stays off.
Fixed: typing in the Explore search box could lose letters or jump back while results loaded.
Alpha 23
Search
New
Explore is open: search people by @handle or name, and posts by what they say (GIF titles included). People come first, and results update as you type.
On Home, press the search icon next to the title: it slides open into a search box.
Search only shows what you could already see. Private profiles appear by their @handle only, and people you've blocked never show up.
Alpha 22.1
A warmer welcome
Look
The landing page now opens with what GameWoz is about and what's already here to try, from GameWoz Radio and GIFs to themes and profiles, before asking “What's your side thing?”.
Alpha 22
Social links
New
Show where else people can find you: X, YouTube, GitHub, Roblox, Xbox, Instagram and TikTok. Add them under Edit profile → Social links.
Type your username or paste your profile address (for Roblox, paste the whole profile address). Leave a field empty to remove that link.
They appear as a row of icons under your bio, in your theme's colours, and open in a new tab. They show to the same people as the rest of your profile.
Alpha 21
GIFs
New
Add a GIF to your posts and comments: press the GIF button in the text box, pick from what's trending or search for anything.
A GIF can be the whole post: text is optional once you've picked one. When you edit a post or comment, you can change or remove its GIF.
GIFs come from KLIPY. Searches and GIFs load straight from KLIPY, which sees your IP address, like any site whose pictures you view.
If you turn animations off on your device, GIFs show as still pictures.
Alpha 20
Settings, and a Pink theme
NewLookFix
Account is now Settings (/settings): your profile, follow requests, blocked and muted accounts, and Themes. Your email, sign-in methods, your data and deleting your account live under Settings → Account settings (/settings/account). Old /account links still work.
New theme: Pink, in dark and light mode.
Fixed: the theme previews in Settings could show up without their colours. And picking a theme or Light mode now applies straight away, without reloading the page or jumping back to the top.
Alpha 19
Art themes, and what you're listening to
NewLookFix
Settings → Themes → Art: Day and Night put a pixel-art wallpaper behind GameWoz, with the menu and pages as frosted glass on top.
Art themes take their colours from the picture itself, and they change as you scroll: things at the top take the colours of the bottom of the picture and the other way round, so they always stand out.
Your profile now shows “Listening to … on GameWoz” while you play a station. It goes away when you pause or stop, and only people who can see your profile see it.
Radio has a whole new look: a little receiver with a screen, a dancing spectrum and a tuning dial, and numbered stations with coloured tiles.
Fixed: stations with long names or countries pushed their play button out of view.
The four Side things planets now carry their names on Saturn-style rings, each spinning on its own random axis, and the GameWoz logo in the menu blinks slowly to show the page is alive.
A new start to the landing page: “What’s your side thing?” in deep space, with stars flying towards you. The GameWoz picture is now the last thing you see before joining.
Alpha 18
GameWoz Radio
New
Live radio for members: open Radio in the menu and tune into chiptune, synthwave, lofi, retro or rock, or search any genre (jazz, drum and bass…).
Keep browsing while it plays: a small player bar follows you on every page, with play, pause and stop.
Only secure streams are offered, so they play everywhere. Stations come from Radio Browser, a community database.
Alpha 17
Alerts, and a flatter, roomier GameWoz
NewLook
Alerts: see who followed you, asked to follow you, or accepted your request. They're grouped (“Ann and 4 others followed you”), with a number on the menu and in the tab title, and a Mark all as read button. Alerts disappear after 30 days.
On big screens everything now scales up a little to fill the space: a gentle zoom from 1700px wide, and wider columns from 1920px.
A cleaner look: flat sections divided by thin lines instead of boxes, plain icons and labels, and a tighter feed. The Fresh posts ticker stays, and the Side things planets are bigger.
Your stats (posts, following, followers, likes received) are now a single row under your name on your profile.
The Likes tab on profiles is gone. Credits now have their own page, linked from the footer.
Alpha 16
Sign in with Discord or GitHub
New
Join GameWoz or sign in with Discord or GitHub: no new password to remember. Joining still needs an invite code and your date of birth.
Already have an account? Account → Connected accounts lets you connect Discord or GitHub to it, and disconnect them again.
Your picture and name aren't copied over from Discord or GitHub; GameWoz only uses them to know it's you.
Alpha 15
Five new themes
NewLook
Settings → Themes now has Crimson, Cyberpunk, Emerald, Oceanic and Sunset next to Default. Each card shows a preview in its own colours.
Every theme works in dark and light mode: pick a theme, then flip the Light mode switch.
Your theme is remembered on this device.
Alpha 14
Light mode
NewLook
Settings → Themes now has a Light mode switch: the Default theme with its colours inverted. GameWoz stays dark unless you switch it on.
Your choice is remembered on this device.
Behind the scenes: every theme now comes in a dark and a light version, ready for the new themes on the way.
Alpha 13
The Devlog
NewFix
This page! New features and gimmicks show up here first. Find it in the menu, between Spaces and Profile.
On phones, stars no longer show through the top bar.
Alpha 12
Emoji, themes and a bigger universe
NewLook
Emoji shortcodes, everywhere you write: type :tada: and it becomes 🎉 the moment you add the closing colon.
Type a colon and two letters, like :ap, and pick from suggestions (🍎 ⚡ 👏) with the arrow keys and Enter.
Settings → Themes: today's black-and-white look is the Default theme. More themes are coming.
A new starfield: randomly scattered stars of every size, instead of neat rows of dots.
On big screens: a roomier layout, your stats in “Your orbit”, and the four Side things.
Alpha 11
Rich profiles
New
Banners: put a wide image at the top of your profile (a moderator approves it first).
Location and website on your profile, plus when you joined and how many posts you've made.
Your birthday, with “who sees this” for the day and the year separately.
Pin a post to the top of your profile.
New profile tabs: Posts, Comments and Likes (only you can see your likes).
Downloading your data now includes your posts, comments and likes too.
Alpha 10
A look of our own
Look
A pixel menu with a blinking game cursor on the page you're on.
Profile pictures become planets, with your @handle on a ring orbiting them.
A side panel with fresh posts and people to follow.
On phones: a bottom tab bar and a floating button to post.
Alpha 9
A new front door
NewLook
A brand-new home page with the four side things: Gaming, Programming, Art and Internet Culture.
Your feed now lives at /home.
Alpha 6–8
Faces, badges and the Latest feed
New
Profile pictures (a moderator approves each one first).
Verified badges next to names.
The Latest tab: see recent posts from everyone, not only people you follow.
Alpha 5
